The Mist & Magic (2 hour)
Experience the Rainforest ...Explore the mist shrouded heart of the Tongass National Forest.
Your naturalist guide will lead you on a streamside exploration surrounded by a garden of ferns & mosses beneath majestic spruce & hemlock.  From canopy to carpet, discover the dynamics of this unique forest ecosystem.  While taking it all in, we will touch on a variety of topics such as botany, natural history, rainforest ecology, as well as the traditional uses of the resources found within the forest. Our reward at the top? The 100 foot tall cascade of Rainbow Falls!

History & Adventure  (1/2 day-full day)
We begin by boat ...
A short ride brings us to the mainland site of Mill Creek and Virginia Lake, an area as rich in history as it is in natural beauty. One of the first native settlements of the Stikine Tlingit, the area has since beckoned fortune seekers from miners to mill operators, to present day fisherman. Our trail leads us along an old "corduroy road" beneath the canopy of the rainforest past remnants of the old lumber mill as we follow this tumbling waterway with its cascading waterfalls. In late summer, watch for the spawning salmon that return each year to scenic Virginia Lake.

Explorer Outings in British Columbia, CanadaExplorer Outing
...Telegraph Creek, British Columbia!
There is a unique magic to fall in the north.  A sweet calm settles in as the long days are slowly fading. This fall
Explorer Outing is one that we've made over the last 3 years  with friends as a final reward for our summertime frenzy of activity.

As we head north up the Stikine River valley into British Columbia, and away from the coastal weather, we enter a whole new landscape of boreal forest painted with golden aspen.  The rich aroma of highbush cranberry perfumes the air.  Along the 160 mile trip to our destination in the Mt. Edziza Provincial Park, we pass through a living landscape of glaciers and river valleys carving granite and basalt into what John Muir referred to as "a Yosemite Valley 100 miles long".

This trip combines the best of all Alaskan (and Canadian) experiences - a boat ride or flight up river, winding our way through glaciers and mountains, a flightseeing trip over the Grand Canyon of the Stikine River and Mt. Edziza with it's surreal cinder cones, a float plane landing on a remote lake, and backpacking our way out along the historic Telegraph Trail. We end our trip with a stay at the River Song Lodge which is operated out of the old Hudson Bay Trading Post building, a wonderful glimpse into the rich history of the area.

We limit our group size to six guests and invite you to contact us for departure and itinerary details.
